The Silos Accommodation: The Story Behind The Photos

We've shared plenty of photos of The Silos Accommodation over the past year. What we haven't been able to show, until now, is the conversation that sits behind it.

The Silos won the inaugural Sustainable Design Award at the 2025 Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards, and off the back of that, Lysaght has released two videos on the project. Rather than a straightforward walkthrough, they spend real time with Nick and Amber, the clients who brought us the brief in the first place. They talk about what the two disused grain silos meant to their family before any of this started, and what the farmstay means for the future of their working farm. That's the part worth watching for. Succession on a working property is rarely simple, and turning two silos into a source of income is one way of making sure the next generation has a reason to stay on the land.

I was interviewed for the video too, and it was a good chance to revisit why the silos mattered so much to the design in the first place. It's not just about environmental sustainability, but perhaps even more so about economic and cultural sustainability.
