How Much Does a Renovation Cost in 2025?
Sharing our typical project scopes and budgets.
I’m always willing to be transparent about price, but the main reason we avoid discussing it publicly is because:
A - It takes such a long article or video to explain how to compare apples with apples, or what standard of inclusion/finish we’re referencing.
B - We inevitably get worried responses from higher-end architects and builders, concerned that we’re making them seem like poor value, or at the other end of the spectrum, people commenting that we’re clueless and ripping people off because ‘their cousin’s brother built for half that four years ago’.
But recently, I bit the bullet and did it anyway, because I’m so frustrated by people being desperate for some guidance and advice, and everyone being too scared to give it. The important thing here is that I’m referencing recent, fully costed projects built to our standard (i.e., achieving our 18 intentions) and including what we usually consider part of the contract (i.e., driveways, decks, garages, and light bulbs).
Of course, your own project might need a bigger budget because it’s larger or more complicated or finished to a higher spec, and likewise, you might get it done a cheaper by accepting minimum standard or lucking out with a cheap contractor. The purpose of this article isn’t to suggest what your budget will be, but to provide some transparency on where our projects typically sit. On the whole, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with thanks, support, and relief at seeing this information made public.
