Podcasts and Presentations
In pursuit of sharing generously.
I love a good conversation, especially one about the homes we live in and how we can make them work harder for us, our health, and the planet. Over the years I've had the privilege of being invited onto some wonderful podcasts to talk about sustainable architecture, home retrofits, energy efficiency, and what it means to design for comfort and longevity in regional Australia.
Below you'll find all the episodes I've appeared on. Whether you're a homeowner weighing up a renovation, a fellow architect curious about practice, or simply someone who listens to podcasts while doing the dishes - I hope you find something useful here.
Architecture & Design: Featuring The Silos Accommodation
This episode of the Architecture & Design podcast (Ep. 293) was a joy — a chance to talk about one of my favourite Cooee projects to date: The Silos Accommodation. We get into what it actually takes to transform an unconventional brief into an award-winning regional project, the design decisions behind it, and what I've learned building a practice that puts sustainability and liveability at the centre of every project. A great listen if you're curious about the realities of regional architecture practice — or just love a project with a good story.
Build InSite: The Path to Sustainability with Sarah Lebner
A two-part deep dive with the Build Insite team, and one of my favourites to record. We get surprisingly nerdy — in the best way — covering the real-world differences between solar-passive design and Passivhaus, where the air-leakage vs budget sweet spot actually sits, and why building smaller is often the smarter (and more comfortable) choice. I also share a new tool anyone can use to model energy-efficiency options in their own design, plus some space-saving tricks I'm using in my own home. Whether you're planning a retrofit, renovation, or new build, these two episodes are packed with practical, cool-climate intel.
Undercover Architect podcast
A two-part series with Amelia Lee of Undercover Architect and a conversation I'd recommend to almost anyone thinking about their home. Across the two episodes we cover the story behind Cooee Architecture, the principles of low-carbon and sustainable design, why renovation is so often misunderstood, and how to dramatically improve the comfort and performance of an existing home without a huge budget. We also get into house size, designing for farms, and what it really means to build a fulfilling life within a well-designed home. Practical, honest, and a little bit philosophical in the best way.
Undercover Architect - with Jenny Edwards
This is where it all began. Before Cooee, I appeared on Undercover Architect alongside Jenny Edwards of Light House Architecture and Science, where I was Lead Architect at the time. We tackle one of the biggest myths in sustainable building: that an energy-efficient home has to cost more. Jenny and I walk through how thoughtful design, scientific testing and traditional building methods done smartly can produce homes that outperform the minimum standard many times over, without blowing the budget. A good one to start with if you want to understand the thinking that shaped everything I've done since.
